It was the best of times, it was the worst of times….INDEED”….Ronnie reciting the opening monologue to ‘A Tale of Two Cities’ to no one in particular.

If it weren’t for nursing school, I’d go pick up that BOOK right now. I am a reader. Nursing School has taken everything that I held dear, like sex, and turned into a clinical nightmare of FACTS and EXPLINATIONS …’s all so disgusting. I don’t care how or what the male thing does….as long as it does it, but now that I KNOW it how do I IGNORE it? Damn I did digress. Reading, like sex, has always been a fun pas time for me. I remember using my superior reading/intellectual skills in HS as a segway for impressing “him”, but guys at that age don’t care about your brains..I mean they don’t….I heard sometime later, that he was fond of me, and did think I was smart…..Right, after he broke my heart and made me pick up the pieces in front of him, while laughing…..Sorry. I made it my life mission to be smarter, wiser, more sarcastic than any other out there, so that one day, we’d meet, and I could say, “Hello “so and so”, we finally meet”…..but I got bored with that…..My point is this….there are some real classic pieces of literature out there. Stories told in glaring detail, characters you fall in love with, invest in, root for and against. Do they require some of these works of art in school? That may be one reason this society has become a cease pool of “But I want it” asshats……A Tale Of Two Cities, by Charles Dickens….I may have to get that out over the Christmas break.

For the younger generation, the two cities are London and Paris, before and DURING the French Civil War. Horrible conditions, with death, destruction, plagues and just sheer nastiness that your young “Ipad” having mind could not possibly comprehend. In any society where real change was/is sought…..real warriors….real people….true lovers of justice must prevail and DIE….is that what scares you…death?  I get it…no one wants to DIE…but you’re okay with our soldiers doing it? Sorry again. Truth is, it isn’t death that should scare you, it should be LOSS….Loss of all things you consider freedoms, but it isn’t freedoms you enjoy now….for if it were, they would be trying to take that from you….dig? Justin Case you didn’t learn this in HS, the French gifted us our beloved Statue of Liberty, because they understood what it meant to fight an oppressive government, and win. See in any real victory, there must be two elements…a people oppressed, and a government that doesn’t give a sh*t…..little bit…..we have that….a little bit……can you imagine living in the squalor and filth of Paris during the Revolution? See, France isn’t the P-whooped little country that keeps itself in mess today…well it wasn’t at one time…those people were pretty bad ass…..ask the monarchy what happens when you give your people cake…instead of change….they gave us…what…90210? Yes, I’m showing my age…..Sigh.

Hmm, so that's how it works.
Hmm, so that’s how it works.

He tried…..John F. Kennedy, beloved Democratic President of the 60’s tried to get us to see that it wasn’t about what this great land could do for us….but what we could do for this great land. We’ve become a spoiled people, demanding handouts, and benefits not earned…but at the same time, we’ve all but forgotten about our Senior’s…the ones who created this lap of luxury we live in…..our Nation’s vets are paid a good lip service. Nary a person alive today, knows what true Revolution looks like. Sure, we had the bra burners of the 60’s and 70’s, Woodstock and whatnot, but we don’t really KNOW….what it’s like to watch our children die in the streets, the dogs licking the bones of the already dead, the famine, the pestilence, the soldiers banging on our door to take our men away….the true sacrifice to enjoy freedom. It’s FUNNY…how it only took a few generations to get away from the Grapes of Wrath….another book you MUST READ….because see, we don’t get it….and then one day, we will…..then to whom will we turn? Each other? NOPE, we slit those bastards throats on FB a long time ago. Orwell wrote it best in Animal Farm…he knew what was up….but until they take away our Ipads, and Iphones, we’re not going to get pissed….just don’t take away Sex and The City…I’ll kill you! A Tale of Two Cities reminds us, begs us, COMPELS us to never forget that Absolute Power corrupts absolutely….they will kill our hero’s, silence our leaders, imprison our uniter(s), but they cannot kill the spirit….of a people never meant to be controlled. Ahh, you shoulda seen the French….brutal, freedom loving fighters…..when you don’t learn, you repeat….I’ll be ready though….I have my classics and no, I’m not sharing. Hmm, so it looks like I’ve turned into ONE of those people…..I wonder what my HS boyfriend would say to me now? I still have the red hair, but am I smarter? Wiser? Would he stay with me today? LOL, TOO LATE…..I gotta man, and I KNOW how it works……but if he want’s talk about great Literature….he can call me….I’m still smart. Be Blessed.
